Greetings Also-Known-As, Inc. Members, Families and Friends! Summer is quickly approaching and many of our programs have come to a close. Fear not! For those who are still around during the summer, we will be here! On May 22, 2010 we will hosted an East Coast Extravaganza where adult adoptees from the Boston Korean Adoptees (BKA), HANA (of Philadelphia) and the Korean American Adoptees of Philadelphia (KAAP) will joined Also-Known-As, Inc, to meet before the gathering for some spring time fun! We started the day off in Central Park joining our Youth Mentorship programs for a picnic and moved on to some sightseeing. Afterwards, more than 50 international adoptees came together for dinner at Kum Gang San in Koreatown. The next morning we closed out the event with some delicious Dim Sum in Chinatown. Everyone had a great time and we hope to keep this up for years to come! Additionally, we are happy to announce that we raised $500 from our Spring fundraiser held at McFaddens and will be delivering the donation to Kang Nam Children’s Home in Seoul, South Korea this summer during the IKAA Gathering. Our three mentorship programs have both come to an end but we are already beginning to plan and take applications for next year! If you are interested in the Youth Mentorship program please contact Annabel Schlossberg and for the Teen program contact me (Marissa Martin). Although some of our programming is coming to a close for the year, we still have events planned for the summer. Our Korean language classes are off to a great start meeting once a week until the end of July. We will be holding a summer happy hour on July 1st, 2010 at Side Bar after work. Drink specials end at 8pm but the fun will continue all night long! Everyone should take this opportunity to come out, meet new people and have a great time! On July 15, 2010 we will be co-sponsoring a sneak preview of Resilience followed by a discussion with the filmakers. A story of loss and separation, Resilience is a character-driven documentary that takes a unique look at international adoption from the perspective of a Korean birth mother and her American son. To learn more about the film go to the Resilience Website and keep an eye out for more details as we get closer! In addition to co-sponsoring Resilience, Also-Known-As will be a Community Sponsor for the Asian American International Film Festival (AAIFF) for the films “In the Matter of Cha Jung Hee” screening on July 17th and “Wo Ai Ni Mommy (I Love You Mommy)” screening on July 16th. More details to follow soon. The International Korean Adoptee Association (IKAA) Gathering in Korea is quickly approaching. Individual events such as the Adoptee World Cup, the Research Symposium, Adoptee Film Festival and the Business Seminar are open for separate registration. Also, a deal on cell phones will be available for Gathering Participants so check out the website for more details! Each day more details on the programs offered are being updated on the IKAA Website, so keep checking it out and be sure to register! For more information on the gathering or to register, visit the IKAA Website or email Annabel Schlossberg or Marissa Martin. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I hope everyone has a wonderful summer. Check our website for more upcoming events and we look forward to continuing our regular programming in September! Sincerely, President, Also-Known-As, Inc.
